Rode the Mt. Tam Century for the first time with James and his co-worker's boyfriend Dan. The day started off cool, foggy and overcast. The forecast said it should be warm on the coast by the time we got there so I left the arm warmers and vest behind. It was fine for the first part of the ride and got hot as we climbed above the fog to Seven Sisters and Mt. Tam. But when we descended down Pantoll it got really cold and stayed that way all the way to Pt. Reyes with a patch of sun and warmth just south of Pt. Reyes. We were riding together at the beginning but I started to drop them on the climbs. And on the descents I was waiting quite a bit at the bottom. By the time we got to Hwy 1, we were scattered.
Legs felt really good for almost the whole ride. I actually got to take it easy most of the ride which was nice. Even when they were sore, I was still able to pull. It wasn't until Lucas Valley Rd. that fatigue set in and I slowed. But a big group passed and I jumped on and during the climb, I passed them one by one. Once we got to Big Rock, I just sprinted the whole way up the hill and was the first one over the crest. I don't know how that happened but it was great. Once I got back I decided to do some extra laps to get in a full century.
