Finally decided to tackle the daunting Larch Mountain climb. The upper portion of the road had been closed for quite awhile, but re-opened May 2, 2025. Started from Lewis and Clark Park. The first section to the Larch Mountain Rd/Vista House intersection is 9.3 miles, with 900 feet elevation gain. That is just a warm-up. The Larch Mountain Rd climb is 14.5 miles with 3200 feet gain. Around mile 1.5 is a 0.5 mile climb that peaks at 11%. The stretch from Loudon Rd to around MP 8 is a steady 5-7%. The new pavement starts around mile 7.5. The remaining 8 miles has a lot of 7-9% grade. Reached the top end of the parking lot in 2:17:00. The downhill ride on the new pavement is pristine. Hardly have to use brakes, except mainly on sharp corners. Need to use a bit more caution on the final 7 miles. More downhill from the Vista House junction, followed by the 2.5 mile flat from Stark St. bridge to the park.
