Bob wanted to go to Pie Ranch which sounded like a great idea. It also worked out because I've been wanted to check if the trailhead for Chalks Rd. had reopened. It has!
We started off with some steep climbing up Mora within the first 2 miles of the ride. Maybe I've done it before but I have no memory of it. Bob started up it pretty hard which felt like too many watts to put out so early in the ride.
After a lovely Dirt Moody, we started climbing Page Mill, which is never lovely to climb. Sonny was riding off the front and Bob seemed to be pushing pretty hard already, so I went by him. When I got on Sonny's wheel, he was surging and slowing constantly. That got frustrating so I just went by him to and continue to ride away.
Along the way we got passed by an Alto Velo group ride and a guy asked me to take his photo. (I did and I don't know why the camera didn't focus so it's blurry shot). After that they went by me and I jumped on the wheel of the last guy in their group. He basically towed me to the base of the steep climb up to the Monte Bello parking lot. We were heading up the climb when the guy that asked for his photo to be taken passed us. I was going to wait to sprint but I was like, "it's on!" and I sprinted passed him, which surprised him. Then I yelled, "C'mon! Let's go!!!" I don't think they had anymore go and I ended up taking the win at the top. I hung out with them at the top of Page Mill waiting for Sonny and Bob.
The sprint was not a good idea, I don't think. My legs felt like bricks after, especially my right quad. It did eventually feel better but I wasn't sure how that would affect me later in the ride.
I was already a little hungry at the start of the ride and definitely hungry climbing Page Mill. I guess I didn't eat a big enough breakfast.
As we got out of the trees on Pescadero Creek Rd. the wind picked up. Fortunately, it was terrible but it was stronger than I was expecting. We had lunch at Arcangeli, which was kind of busy.
The tailwind down the coast to Pie Ranch was so nice, as usual. We all had Peach Black Berry Galettes and Olipop sodas which the guys didn't care for because of the stevia? It had a slight aftertaste but overall, I liked it.
When it was time to go, I just wanted to take a nap. I was sleepy. I think riding yesterday morning as well and waking up early two days in a row had an affect even though I wasn't feeling too bad when I woke up.
All the climbing after that, I didn't feel great. I think my legs were okay and I was able to put out power. I just didn't want to because I was sleepy. And later up W. Alpine, I felt hungry again.
Bob actually pushed up Haskins and W. Alpine decently hard. Looks like he's getting stronger.
