I got up early at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Mission Church and was riding by 7am. At the little village of Vallecitos I filled up with water from the tap at the community center. The forest roads from there were cool and dry through open pine forest. Approaching El Rito the landscape became more desert like. Coming into El Rito the rangers at the ranger station let me use their hose to clean the dried mud off my drive train, calipers and the rest of my bike. There was a fiesta at the church and meeting Father Tom I asked if I could make a donation in lieu of my crashing at the mission church, but graciously he said since I bought a meal that it was fine, so I bought a couple of raffle tickets to be sure.
The ride into Abiquiu on the state highway and US84 went fine. Later I checked out the camping at the reservoir but rode back to the super nice bikers lodging at Goldie’s Retreat on the River. So nice I may take a rest day here
