Boldly going where I have never gone before! Took the new Grail out for a more serious gravel test and a chance to explore the blanks on my heat map. Out through the Large Animal compost heaps, then up the ridge on Cedar Creek Road to K-18. The KDOT rumble strip fetishists have ruined the shoulders there. May they burn in hell forever. Turned off on Carnahan to unwisely take Twin Mound Road back to the east; that's a bit over a kilometer of "nope" - steep up and down with minimum maintenance. That drops you onto Myer Valley Road, which is high prairie with a gorgeous, commanding view. Makes up for the frightening approach. Lake Elbo Road then is less spectacular and eventually give way to pavement. Harvest Road goes back west on gravel again to paved Green Valley Road. That take you to steep gravel Junietta Road, to the river then back to local pavement. Stayed in "Eco" mode save for the nasty climbs on Twin Mound, only burning two bars of the three left after the ride two weeks ago. I should be able to get 5 hours and/or about 110 km out of a single charge. Weather was fair, around 77°f, winds a bit stronger than advertised, SW at about 13 mph, gusting to 23 mph. Low relative humidity compared to the last soggy wee, at about 36%. Wore my old brown Swobo jersey and black helmet, the closest matches to the bike colors that I've got. Must look good if you can't be good.
