We were in a bit of a rush today because the weather forecast was ominous. We also had to climb back out of Orebić along the route we came into town two days earlier. We were not thrilled about the traffic.
Thankfully, we left the busy 18 at Potomje to follow the southern coast. This meant passing through the 400m Dingač Tunnel. There is only enough room for one lane of traffic (plus a bicycle). We could also see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it wasn't coming from a freight train.
Our route hug the side of the mountain at about 80m above sea level. We could see the main (but boring) route above. We were treated to vineyards. We also went through the lovely village of Trstenik.
Six kilometres down the road, we left the coast and climbed back into the centre of the Pelješac peninsula. This climb was shorter but steeper than the one out of Orebić. Once we reached the top, we had to climb another 100m for 14km before finally descending back to sea level at Ston.
At Ston, we made a detour to Broce and back. We then joined some of our fellow travellers for lunch in Ston. The spaghetti was tasty, and the beer refreshing, but the service left a bit to be desired. It was then a short 1.5km to our hotel in Mali Ston.
