Updated: Shortened from my original route by appx. 5 miles to avoid Mountain Rd.
This route is very challenging, not for the faint of heart :-)
The first couple of miles are easy, but on the busy RT 32. Then the climbing fun begins after the first turn onto Rt 74. Then once on North River Rd and for the remaining back roads there is less traffic.
It was pointless to ride down Old County Rd towards Old Springfield Rd. It's littered with downed trees, and more importantly, the home owner blocked it with a Gate - No Trespassing. (I wonder if that is even legal?)
So instead I took the trail through Shenipsit State park between Old Country Rd and Worthington rd. It is challenging for a gravel bike, but do-able. Just needed to choose my lines wisely.
I didn't forget about the water crossing on Hampden Rd. Knowing that it gets deep in the middle and there are some big rocks I wasn't going to take chance and attempt to ride through it, so, again, off came the socks and shoes. I brought a hand towel to dry my toe-toes, so I could continue my ride with dry feet.
The remainder of the route is a mix of paved roads and rocky trails and a few nice gravel roads like Crooked South Rd and Fenton Road.
