Decided to ride the 2016 ALS 50 route today. Started from Mt. Angel Abbey, but parked at the bottom of the hill. The first 5 miles was a nice warm-up to Gallon House Covered Bridge then into Silverton. The next 10 miles was nearly all climbing, mostly on Drift Creek Rd. Close to 1500 feet climbing in the 10-mile stretch. Mile 18.6 is the turn onto Highway 214 west. A couple rollers, then generally flat to the first rest stop at Victor Point Farm (mile 23.5). The route then goes through Shaw and continues on Howell Prairie Rd. Mile 39 is the second rest stop, Willamette Pie Company. It was pretty busy. The final 10 miles was on Howell Prairie Rd, then Waypark Rd and back into Mt. Angel. Low clouds at the start, but then partly cloudy after the big Drift Creek Rd climb.
