For this stage of Tour de Croissant x Tour de Pumpkin Spice Latte we visited Moonwake Coffee Roasters and Marvel Cake in Campbell.
Anthony and I needed to be back by a certain time so we decided to do something closer. Turns out others needed to as well so it worked. My original route also went further south by Calero but that would've been too long.
It was funny too because on yesterday's ride, Ant mentioned that he was thinking of riding south. I was thinking, why aren't you joining our ride but then I remembered he's not part of the message group. So it doubly worked out that we got to show Ant and Zoe the South Bay.
When Kira and I first got to the meet at Menlo Park Library, we were wondering where everyone was. We waited for a bit and then I finally texted Anthony. Turns out he, Ant, and Zoe were waiting in a spot hidden by hedges where we normally don't meet. :)
Once we met up with Anthony's friend, Seth, the pace got a lot spicier. When we picked Catherine and Joshua up in Los Altos, I don't think Catherine was expecting us to be going so fast.
When we got to Moonwake, there was quite a line. Their Pumpkin Spice Latte is made with pumpkin puree. When Anthony asked how it was incorporated into the drink, they said, "It's a secret." I think that was could for, "I don't know." As a non-coffee drinker, I tried some of Kira's Milo Mocha and I thought it was pretty good. It wasn't bitter and there was no sour aftertaste. It was pretty smooth. I thought about getting multiple pastries but our next stop at Marvel Cake was only a mile or two away. So I just got their Strawberry Guava Pastelito. It was good. In hindsight, I should've gotten something else.
At Marvel Cake, I got an Apple Turnover, which was just okay. And Kira and I shared a Leek Parmesan and Spinach Feta croissant. I preferred the Leek Parmesan and Kira preferred the Spinach Feta. They were both tasty and the differences between them were subtle.
Anthony got a Pistachio Spiral Croissant. It has some green cream on top to signify that it's pistachio but I joked that it was avocado flavored. I think Zoe said it was wasabi. Some people at the table thought we were being serious. :)
After Marvel Cake, we did some new trails to get to Guadalupe River Trail. It's also when the headwind picked up for us. Luckily it wasn't terrible. Unfortunately it was around the time we were on GRT that Kira went from feeling great to not feeling great and by the time we got out to the Bay Trail, she was falling behind.
The acidity of the coffee didn't sit well in her stomach. Guys, we need to start a fund to get her a tummy transplant. :) Or if we can't get enough money for that, then perhaps FMT. :)
I had American Bistro at Shoreline Lake as an optional lunch stop. No one seemed to want to stop except Joshua. I decided to escort Kira home.
I'm glad I started the ride with a couple bottles of Skratch Super High-Carb. Three pastries wouldn't normally have been enough for this ride but I managed to finish the ride not feeling hungry or bonking.
