After a breakfast at the station I was once again sheltering from the rain on a day I wanted to finish quickly.
By 9:30 I decided it was light enough to go and within 10 minutes roadworks had blocked my route across a train line and with no obvious diversion it took me a while to find a little path under the line tucked away behind an Aldi 2 miles away !
It was dull. mizzly and there was a strong wind off the left all day. At Heerlen I took cover under a canopy as the heavens opened for 10 minutes before I got the best weather of the day.
I passed a huge globe on a roundabout made entirely from bike wheels and just round a corner on an inoccuous street there was a memorial to the Marines at Limburg.
I reached the massive Julianakanaal and followed it along the top of the levee, I realised hiw big it was. The top of the kevee was about 30feet abouve tge land around which meant tge canal was probably 20feet above the surrounding land.
I reached Maasbrugge where huge sluices controlled the water in both the canal and the river Maas. Once again their was a downpour so I stopped at a convenient cafe before lunch.
On the riad as fast as possible I covdred the ladt 22miles in about 90minutes .. And I was in my hotel in Venlo just in time to see the 2nd half win for the Toon v Notts Forest.
