Needles to Ludlow, CA Our longest day on the bikes on this tour and our first > 100mi day. Stunning scenery out here in the desert: pre-dawn lightning vistas that stretch on for so many miles. The road we took was closed due to many small bridges being damaged by what appears to be flash floods. We were able to get around all of them with little trouble so we had about a thirty mile stretch of remote desert road almost entirely to ourselves (a few cars did pass us). We made it to Amboy at mile 80, which was supposed to be our dry-camping spot for the night. The winds were lighter and so we made faster time than expected so we decided to ride an additional 30mi to Ludlow. Of course that stretch was mostly uphill and the winds really kicked up toward the end of the day. Feels good to make so much progress in one day but we are both pretty tired.
