My second attempt on this ride report: It was getting dark and I had not eaten anything but a few small snacks and didn't want to eat a full meal, so I got dressed to ride, I wore a lighter top than yesterday but it is very deceptive of how well it works as long as you generate enough body heat to keep you warm. I was wondering if it was the right choice as when I started I was cold! It was designed for runners, this one had a little wider waist super thin like a heavy shirt but does the job, II get out on the ride and get 4 miles in and I get a low a battery warning for the pedal power meter, I pullover replaced the battery with a new one, I get 1/4 mile and get another low battery so I change the other side battery. The low battery warning didn't so I reset the warning light. I had no further warnings. So, a little further down the road I get time to drink notice. I reach down for my water bottle, nothing reach to the other cage nothing, so I look, nothing... so I think I must have removed it at one of my previous stops, and I'll pick it up on the way back! If got real thirsty I could always stop at WaWa, so just pedaled on. On the return trip, I did stop at the 2 locations the I changed the batteries and nothing, I even thought I cold have fallen out on one of the big bumps I hit, but I would have notice that. With 4 miles to go I thought that I may have left it at the house. It turns out I never filled the bottle, it was still hanging on the rack, empty.
Back to the ride, I did intend to make this a full day time ride but other priorities got in the way. My main goal was to ride the full road and hill that I cut into halfway up, last week going thru a housing development that was all bumpy. I did finally get to the start of the long gentle climb. It was a blast I really enjoyed the climb, it was about 2 miles long, on a very nice wide and smooth shoulder with no stops all the way up the summit. The steepest climb never got over 4 degree slope and maybe 200+ yards there was at least 3 sections that hit this grade, the majority was 1 to 2 degrees with some topping off at 3. It's really not difficult if you use your gears as you should. For this area, it is the longest that I have found and most of all safe! This will be one of my regular routes. For anyone interested it is in Manchester Twp, Whiting, NJ, Pinewald-Keswick Road to Schoolhouse Rd. Landmarks; at traffic light you will see Walgreen Pharmacy on one side the opposite side there's a CVS Pharmacy and Well Fargo Bank on the corner make the turn to this side! The hill starts a few hundred yards from the corner. If you do this hill, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Mission complete: Be safe out there and enjoy the ride!
