A couple weeks ago, Bob asked if I’d ever been to Kantine. Apparently Bob just found out the Scandinavian baking cookbook he purchased a couple years ago, the author is local and is the chef/owner of Kantine.
I had to be home earlier than usual so this shorter ride worked out.
The weather was cold and foggy to start like the rest of this week. The fog finally cleared up when we got to San Francisco but it was still overcast. And the fog was now replaced by wind making it colder than before.
We met up with Ali at Kantine. Bob's Cinnamon Knot was, "Near perfect". My sausage roll was really good too. I wish the sausage was a little softer but it tasted good and the pastry, although also not as soft and buttery, it was still really good.
The sun came out in spurts while we were sitting there. It was actually warm enough when the sun was out but we started to shiver as the sun was not out enough.
I'd never taken 17th to Twin Peaks before. Strava routed it that way and I THOUGHT I was avoiding the other steep ways of getting there by taking it. As we approached it, we both saw this wall. Bob thought I was crazy. I thought we were going to be turning. Narrator - they did not turn.
Had I known, I would've routed the slightly more out of the way but not quite as steep way. I powered up it but Bob noped out of the steepest last block.
I had warned him that this way up to Twin Peaks was the steeper way but in my mind I was thinking about having to climb Clarendon. Oops.
After Twin Peaks, we were supposed to climb S. Hill to Old Guadalupe Trail. There was some debate about whether we were going to do it at all before going. On the way over I asked Bob if he wanted to do it and, for the sake of time and getting me home on time, we decided not to. :)
It was supposed to be a tailwind back but somehow it wasn't. After lunch at Melissas, we powered through the headwind. Around Foster City, the fog in the bag was just the right color where the sky and water blended perfectly together so there was no horizon line and anything on the water just looked like it was floating.
We didn't make it back exactly when I wanted to but we did get back around the time I was still okay with.
Along with the cold, there were way too many cars.
