I was cold and windy on the start, legs were sore and semi flat. Left knee joint was hurting, Right calf to quad was painful as well as lower back. I am a mess. Well I was very enthused to be riding with other riders. I rode out to meet the TE "A" group at the 16 miles mark which would be 16 miles for them too. Well it was very wind for 2/3rds of the ride out. I pushed it but tried to stay relaxed as not to burn myself out. Got there with a 20 mph average it wasn't easy with the wind kicking me in the ass. I kept telling myself that I would tuck in until I was recovered enough to work with the group. As luck would have it the group didn't show so I headed to the rest stop and another group was pulling as I got there. then the group I was waiting for pulled in and a 3rd group pulled in. The group I was waiting for joined with the last group and off we went. It was really nice to be riding with other riders. It was much easier riding with them even when we were riding at 22+ mph. Now I was also on my Race bike which is much easier to ride at speed than my training bike. The group had to do several regroups which slowed my average speed down quite a bit. The wind was no where as bad in the paceline. My average speed after 40 miles was 19 mph. I was ride with a 15+ head wind when I split from the group I pushed the pace and got it up over 22 mph, it was kicking my ass but I wanted to get my average back up. I really didn't think I could get it over 20 mph but I did try. there were a few spot my pace slowed to 17 going up hill and when the wind was gusting up. I kept pushing myself maybe I should have drank a little more frequent and ate more as I started feeling the signs of cramping with 12 miles to go. when I got to 7 miles to go I started to cramp and it only got worse as time went on. I tried to work through it the best I could but it was taking its toll. I had t add 6 miles as I had turned off the GPS when one of the riders broke down but for got to turn it back on.
