This was supposed to be nearly 60KM but 60KM it was not. I realised that it was a small bit frosty and that care needed to be taken so I went ahead . It was OK on the main roads if you kept away from the kerb as it was a bit icy , but when I got off the main roads it was a different story . Even there I took my time . I was on this small country road , just before the Sheshoon Crossroads and the bike came from under me and I went head first onto the road . I was not really injured that bad but a large lovely bump was on my side which was sore enough . Jesus the luck. I think it was an icy patch , at the middle of the road . A tractor driver came to my assistance but I was all right . But it was sore . And a driver offered me a lift , I suppose back to Kildare , but I was not that bad . But it did become worse as time went on . I gave up my attempts at a cycle then and headed back to Kildare and had a cup of tea , that all , no cake to tempt me . So I left for Dublin about 20mins later . But I really got a fright .The pain became worse as I went on and I walked up the hill along be St Stevens hospital and then got back on the bike . I took my time on the way back home . When I got home before half one I actually refused a cup of tea and went to bed where I did not really sleep for an hour and then got up again . Then I was extremely sore and could hardly walk . My whole right hip was grazed and part of my right arm , but again it was extremely sore . I noticed that it was getting better gradually , or not as sore . I had no lunch and for tea I just had a boiled egg , so I had an apatite. So I have learned one or two lessons - when there is the slighest hint of ice , dont go , and also be very careful because there might be an icy patch . Remember I am nearly 72 , so I have to be careful, more careful now than when I was 52. I would say the cycling is out until next week at east , and I wont tell A or C cos' they will be worried about me and cycling . I suppose the next thing is , they will insist that I buy an electric bike .
