Really wanted to get the bike with two fenders back on the road today, but after 90 minutes of carefully digging the frayed cable out of the shifter, discovered I also need a new bottom bracket cable guide that I can pick up on Tuesday. Spent most of that time thinking that I should have just changed the cable weeks ago when Sarah Rogers sold me a new one. At least Wendell Walker can take comfort in knowing that others have shared the struggle. So, it was out into the sloppy conditions on the other bike (for which I still need to fix the front fender). That delayed start worked out very well, though, as the Super Bowl had cleared a lot of traffic off the roads, and I was able to indulge my route-finding curiosity on several alternate roads. The timing also allowed a fun crossing of paths and brief chat with John McCaffrey, who was out enjoying the first quarter the same way.
