Seven. Warm, sunny, wind not so noticeable. Rode up the Boreas Pass gravel road, which started about 4 miles out of Breckenridge. Was closed and gated when we got there but other bikes and hikers were still using it. We ran into two graders fixing the snowmelt damage and they had reopened the road by the time we returned.
This was the 2nd gravel ride of the day and the highest climb of the entire trip - Boreas Pass was at elevation11,493 ft. Incredibly scenic and wildly beautiful. Ran into a couple of young bike packers going the other way, several pickups and a couple of motorcyclists, stopped and talked to most.
About 4 miles from the summit, a bike caught us from behind and rode with us to the top. He was competing in the Tour Divide 2019, an off road 2700 mile race from Canada to Mexico. Completely self supported, he was riding a single speed fat bike. We talked the entire time, his first conversation with anyone in a week.
Incredible ride, 11+ miles climbing from the start, the descent was challenging, with constant brake application and very rough surfaces.
