Route : 60 miles with 1800ft of climbs followong the Namhan River East then South on a great cycleway.
Weather : Drizzle clearing to solid cloud. Cool all day between 6-10 C
Diary : I set off straight down Teheran-Ro for two miles to reach the cycleway passing on the way lots of runners preparing for Today's Seoul Marathon.
Once on the cycleway I passed the Olympic stadium before picking up the Riverside. Soon I was at the Olympic Bridge which crosses the Namhan and stopped shortly afterwards as I had found a Baseball match and as I struggled to get a photo through the netting a Korean guy approached and I feared Id be told off ! Nonethesuch - he was cycling with his two kids and his pedal had fallen off .... Pratty to the rescue and with the right Allen Key he was soon on his way. At Seon-Dong the river turns 90 degrees south and the path run past a stream an under a road viaduct - it all looked great.
I
crossed the river on a high level bridge and tried to stop for a coffee at a very popular cafe where lots of the many serious squads of cyclists had congregated. After a few minutes of me not having a clue and nobody to obviously ask I decided to leave.
The cyclroute passed the mighty Paldang Dam after which tgere were sculptures of silhouettes to photograp, which I did. Just before I crossed the Bukhan River which runs into the Namhan there was a little family coffee shop which looked quiet. so I stopped and via my mobile phone I eventually came out with a coffee - they only had coffee, no snacks, not even milk !
Next there were 8 tunnels to cycle through and emerging from the last one on the right there was the road on stilts in the river running parallel and a roadside pagoda where I stopped fir photos. The path followed the train line into Yangpyeong where passed tge local Art Museumand I stopped for a Subway lunch !
I followed a beautiful stretch of the river before passing another Baseball match .. This was the Guaqun Leopards which I believe is a too team as there were a few hundred in the stand watching.
I reached a great big weir across the river called the Iwo Weir which had about a dozen pods which lifted the weirs. There was a set of totem poles on what mag have been a burial ground nearby.
I passed two lads labouring along and when I stopoed to take pictures on the next weir they caught me up and we got talking, they were from Israel and decided to do the 4 Rivers cycle route as they were in asia and heard about it. They were astounded I was doing it in 7 days which I described as easy and went on to tell them of my plans for Japan After breifly also telling them how good Newcastle Utd are we parted and in 5 miles I was at Yeoju which had a park wih a pavillon and next a suspebsion bridge just next to my hotel.
After showering and sunset I went for a walk to the bridge and it had transformed onto a light show with coloured LEDs as lasers shooting into the sky .... stunning.
