An early start as I was suffering the effects of yesterday - a good rub down to get rid of all that tightness and creaks and groans - a good wash too .. and then a lube ... Anyway the bike recovered well.
Just as well coz I feel good !
The sun was out and it was hot at 9am - Todays route was either a tortuous one along all the coastal cities hemmed in by motorways and Wide fast Avenues.
Or head a bit inland and see a lake and a dam and rural roads ..oh and a few climbs !
I chose the inland route but even then I had a 20 mile ride to Himeji and another 10 to Kakogawa where I finally reached the Kakogawa river and a cycle route ... after the nirmal frustrations of ridiculous traffic light sequences I was on a track along the river for 12 miles up to Miki and another Lawsons lunch which Today was a very tasty Bento Box.
Next I was on the first climb .. 500ft up to Lake Tsukuhara - A straight forward climb out of the valley and in mo time I was on the dam. There were roads on both sides but my side was barriered with notices abiut falling rocks. Well the barriers were easy enough to squeeze my bike past so it must be ok !
After only a mile the road went under two high flyovers and another road joined - bike squeezed through the next barrier and I was away.
There was a Be Kobe sign overlooking the lake so I stopped for a selfie. The road continued another 4miles .. Quiet no traffic, just familes out with their bairns cycling and taking pics and videos of the blossom.
The second climb of 1200ft was a pig ! It just kept getting onto smaller and smaller roads with steeper and steeper gradients. I had to stop a few tinrs but did cycle up ... even the 20% bits !
A few false tops followed by 10% climbs were not what I wanted but eventually I hit a crazy steep descent dropping 1000 ft in little over a mile. There was a viewpoint of Kobe not far from the bottom of the descent - I did a video and took pics.
There were 23 miles to do from Kove to Osaka and I did very well to ma age them in 3hrs - my route was great ... just so many red lights on long sequences !
Im glad it was Sunday as I suspect tjis may have taken 5hrs duringvthe week !
And so second time round I arrived at the correct Toyoko Inn in Namba, Osaka at about 6:30 ... twilight again ! and perfect timing to have a week off cycling with the family who fly into Kansai Airport tomorrow.
