At around mile 4 of today’s casual neighborhood bike ride, I heard an awful crashing sound, like two motor vehicles colliding with one another. Sure enough, at the intersection of Hiatus Road and Sheridan Street, one SUV was on its side and one small truck was sitting in the middle of the busy intersection. Another SUV, a large white one, was also involved in the mishap with minor damages to its front end. I arrived at the scene probably 2 or 3 minutes after hearing the sound of the collision. By that time, one local police officer was on the scene comforting the lady that was trapped inside the fallen SUV. Because the truck lay on the driver’s side, she could only be reached through the SUV’s sunroof. In a short amount of time, a fire truck and rescue arrived, as well as more police officers. The injured lady was then extracted from the sunroof of her truck and then immediately placed in the rear of an ambulance. It was an awful early-morning scene, as you can imagine. The roads were wet from previous rain showers, but I doubt that the wet roads had anything to do with the cause of the accident. I’m guesstimating that the lack of patience had everything to do with the collision. I see it every day when out bicycling.
