পহেলা বৈশাখ (Pohela Boishakh) is the Bengali New Year celebrated by the Bengali people worldwide and as a holiday in Bangladesh on this date each year in the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura, Jharkhand and Assam. (April 14 in leap years and in Bangladesh.) It is a festival based on the spring harvest, which marks the first day of the new year in the Bengali calendar.
Pohela Boishakh celebrations started during the rule of Mughal empire, representing the proclamation of tax collection reforms under Akbar. Its celebration is rooted in the traditions of the Bengali Muslim Mahifarash community of Old Dhaka. Presently, it is largely a secular holiday for most celebrants and enjoyed by people of several different faiths and backgrounds.
The festival is celebrated with processions, fairs, and family time. The traditional greeting for Bengalis in the new year is শুভ নববর্ষ (Shubho Noboborsho) which is literally "Happy New Year."

After struggling to finish my ride two days ago (48 miles, 4K climb), I wanted to know whether I'm still capable of a metric century! I've registered for a bunch of century rides this summer, the next being the Wine Country May 2, and I want to know whether I can do them, or at least the metric routs.
So today I planned a metric century route up the coast, 62.5 miles, 3.2K climb. And it worked out! The whole ride felt good, if challenging. I always enjoy Swanton. (I must do Swanton north-to-south one of these days.) And my route went just beyond Pigeon Point to Bean Hollow Road, so I could get photos of Arroya De Los Frioles.
My unusually high average speed is, I'm sure, mostly due to the 15-knot tailwind for the 30 miles coming back. That's OK. I'll take it!
