There are a lot of very narrow dead ends in Hogansville that I wanted to complete before sunrise, plus the forecast was for another summer like day so I left very early. Sunrise over West Point lake was amazing, and finishing the subdivisions along highway 27 north of town was very easy, if challengingly hilly. There was a haze of thin clouds that kept the bright sun from drowning everything out all morning and only thinned out a bit later in the day. So the temperature stayed pleasant till after noon.
Riding through Lagrange was painless and since I was feeling good and still had plenty of water I decided to ride on past the first stop location to store stop number 2 at the interstate at a Circle K. I filled up bottles and got a coke with some pickles. The following riding once I was south of town was industrial for awhile as I ticked off cul de sacs near warehouses, random manufacturing(some with smoke stacks belching black smoke?), and most notably the Kia assembly plant which is the size of a medium city. The roads installed near the plant are way overbuilt and I can't imagine the activity surrounding comes even close to a tenth of the saturation of all the capacity. It's 4 and 6 lane roads with giant shoulders that has an occasional car or truck every few minutes in the middle of the day. It is Saturday of course so perhaps the main activity happens during the week but as near as I can tell they run all the time as i've never not seen a good amount of cars in the main parking lot.
Next I ambled my way along gravel near highway 18 towards Pine Mountain. The wind was from the southwest today and only really picked up in the afternoon. The gravel roads were very nice but are very very dry and loose as there has been little rain the past several weeks. I decided to stop for the second and hopefully final time at a Chevron beside interstate 185 where I got lots and lots of water and a soda with some chips. I decided to actually sit down and fill bottles and eat the chips but I didn't stay all that long.
All the roads near Pine mountain were wonderful riding of course as always, and the gravel was also very loose and kinda slow due to the drought. One gravel road south of Durand that i've used many times since it is the shortest way to get to Pine Mountain from my house is now opened up to cars again as the county has replaced the culvert. Before this the county had installed metal railing across the road to prevent cars from going over the culverts which were intact and perfectly rideable.
The remainder of the riding up through Greenville was good and pretty deserted. Somewhat fast as I had a tailwind, and I decided I could make it the rest of the way without another stop. The trip through Senoia was faster than usual since I took the main way through town till the last hill ride around on Rockway. I finished the ride well ahead of my goal time and felt decent by the end.
