I’ll be the first to admit that living close to a general aviation airport has its pluses and minuses but as somewhat of an aviation geek it is definitely more plus than minus. Anyway, for the past day or so there has been an aircraft practicing acrobatics. The deep throated roar of what sounds like, but is probably not, an old school radial engine waxes and wanes as the pilot puts the aircraft through its paces… And it is driving me NUTS! Not because of the noise, rather because it is just out of sight! So what does any self respecting cyclist/aviation nut do? Well you hop on your favorite bike and take a ride over to the airport to see what you can see! All the way (6 miles or so) over there I could see, and hear the aircraft doing figure eights, barrel rolls, hammer head turns and assorted other acrobatic maneuvers! Arriving sometime later at the Sebring Regional Airport I found not one, but several acrobatic aircraft…. Even a couple double winged biplanes w/ you guessed it radial engines! What a treat! Wish I could have gotten closer to these beauties! Oh… and the ride was great too!
