This morning for some reason I really struggled with the idea of getting out of bed, but I'm glad I got myself to!
The day started with a coin laundry visit where while I waited I installed the new chain on my bike. Of course it wasn't a simple process, because it never is! The chain was a chain link too short, so I took the quick release system from my old chain and turns the new one into a quick release chain (which it wasn't intended to be). It took me aaaaages though, I left the coin laundry at 9 when I planned to leave at 7ish.
I went straight around the corner to an onsen, I figured I'm in Beppu I should at least use one of the famous onsens. There was a no tattoo sign, but after talking to the woman I was able to buy a tattoo cover to be let in. It was a nice big onsen, very busy though. The water wasn't too hot either, although no onsens seem to be nearly as hot as what I got used to in Nozawaonsen. With a freshly washed body into freshly washed clothes I felt amazing!
Today was really day one of sticking to the coast again after my long mountain escapades. It actually didn't take very long to leave the city, and once I got onto this little bike path it was very beautiful. The bike path itself wasn't actually great, it had roots making the ground bumpy and fallen leaves and sticks everywhere. But once it opened up onto the roads again, I was riding alongside beaches so beautiful they were almost like Australian beaches! I wanted to stop and stay but I was quite hungry and had plans ahead. You'll never guess where I was going......
I arrived at Joyfull at around 4 (lol) and got my food and cracked into editing. I'm really happy with the progress I made on my video so far. Last night I watched a video on cutting out everything in life but the things you need to do (i.e. no entertainment throughout the day and focus on your one task when you're working). I did that today and once I got stuck into editing, I felt myself getting into a good flow. I actually focused on not letting my brain jump around to different editing tasks, but instead to finish the sync edit for each scene in the video. It worked!
After Joyfull I backtracked slightly to a beach to camp on. Turns out, unbeknownst to me before I arrived, this is literally a camping beach. This is probably the first campsite I've legally stayed at in Japan that is actually this beautiful. I can't believe I'm legally camping in a beach, NSW could never!
