The ride today was 90-95% on paved pathways. At the 10 km mark, there is a new trail that runs beside the Athabasca River along with benches and view points. The trail is lit a night. South of it is the Outdoor Water Park. South West of HWY 43 which dissects the town, is the fun paved undulating path after climbing from the lower town. The ride down along Dahl Road back to the lower town is exhilarating. For a town of 10,000 people, it was strange to see a 50 ft high pedestrian overpass straddling the railway track. The stairs and the walkway are open metal grated. When we climbed to the top, a train traveled under the overpass. With the Miller Western pulp and paper mill by the town, perhaps the train arrives often, thereby necessitating the pedestrian overpass.
