Left Vienna city park at 9:28am and rode north for 20.4 miles to the Stonefort rest stop for an approx 19 minute rest then turned around to ride back to Vienna which included another rest stop of 5 minutes at 10 miles out. The tunnel was misty/foggy inside and muddy on the path floor. Paul Suchecki had told us to ride in the middle of the tunnel for the best path. Had both of my headlights on which was enough to see with. The weather was overcast and high 60'sF with little to no wind which made for an ideal day to ride. A few slight misty sprinkles and nothing more along the route. It had rained there the day before and morning of so the trail was damp in spots. The trail maint crew had to remove 2 trees that had fallen on the trail with one of them large enough that riders had to carry their bikes through it. The trail from the tunnel back to Vienna was the most scenic with rock faces, small bluffs and a fast flowing creek(Little Cache) that ran along side the trail and which was crossed over several times via trestle/bridge. I stopped at various points on the way back to take some pics. This was my first experience with the Tunnel hill trail and I would like to ride it again. I wore my Trailblazer bike shirt for the ride and had to remove several tiny pieces of gravel from my back pockets that had flown up from the back tire of my bike. My gravel bike definitely needs a cleaning after this ride but it was well worth it. The drive was 329.4 miles round trip from home and basically 2 1/2 hrs each way.
