Four days of riding in a row capped off with the longest ride of the bunch.
I was slightly late today but amazingly, Sonny was “early”, arriving 30s after me.
It's been sunny all weekend but today started off chilly and cloudy. The forecast in Pescadero was mostly cloudy. Luckily, once we warmed up, it was pretty comfortable all the way to Pescadero. It got a bit humid as we got closer actually.
There were so many cars on the road. It reminded me of being in Marin. On the climb up Haskins I was thinking, note to self - don't ride on Memorial Day.
I had been getting hungry and while we were climbing Haskins, my limbs started to tingle and there were a couple points where I felt sort of light-headed, sort of disconnected from my limbs. So I dropped Bob and Sonny so I could get to the top and eat a snack. I felt much better afterward.
During the lunch, the sun came out and it was looking partly cloudy rather than mostly. They had a BBQ Beef Brisket sandwich that I was imagining was going to be thick cut like the one at Boa Vista Orchards. Instead it was thinly sliced like deli meats. It was good but it would've been better the other way.
After Stage, on the descent down to Tunitas, I was wondering why Bob seemed unstable. It was windy but I wasn't being affected by it. Right after I had that thought, he started to have a speed wobble. It looked like it was getting worse and I thought he was going to crash and maybe take me with him. It lasted for quite a while actually. No idea what caused it or why it was so hard to recover from it.
I had two other groups of friends also doing Pescadero loop today. I thought maybe we were going to overlap at some point but one group was about an hour ahead and the other group was about an hour behind (when we got to Pescadero). Sounds like the group that was behind was going slow and in danger of never getting home. :)
On Tunitas, everyone ended up riding at their own pace. Halfway up, the wind started to get really cold. I wasn't able to work hard enough to warm up. I put layers back on at the top but it was also cold going down Kings.
I was worried that it was going to be cold the rest of the ride back but fortunately it was okay once we got down to Woodside. The wind had picked up and it was colder than this morning but the temp without the wind was also warmer.
I had thought about riding from home instead of driving down to Bob's but I didn't want to deal with the headwind back home. I'm really happy with my decision because the tailwind back to Bob's was massive.
