Finally got caught in the rain, but an overpass conveniently appeared and we stayed dry with only 4 miles to go. A few drips from the trees, otherwise uneventful. Ride from Powder Springs to Rockmart was easy. We had only 16 miles to go at 10:30, so we explored around town and found out the reason for the town is a slate quarry since 1880. There is at least 100 more years of supply. The bike shop owner is working on a custom painted carbon frame in slate gray for the president. Ate pizza at home town pizza, and had great service, good pizza, and very reasonable price. The trip up the big hills was doable, but HARD with an 11% maximum grade. With rain last night, the pavement was wet and the back wheel slipped once in 5 mph granny gear. Same grade as earlier hill from the trail to the highway that caught me unexpected. Even standing I barely turned the pedals over!
