Have been wanting to do the old northern RACC route for a long time. Ride starts from the Salmon Creek Safeway/Starbucks off NE 134th and 20th Ave. The first few miles meanders northeast to just north of Brush Prairie, at state highway 503. Then it is north into Battle Ground and to Crawford, on the east fringe of Battle Ground State Park. Spitting rain for much of this 13-mile section. Quick restroom stop at Heisson, then on to Lucia Falls Rd. One of my favorite riding segments. First rest stop at Moulton Falls Park (mile 21.4). The ride started getting more a bit more difficult from here due to a multiple long rollers. Continued through Yacolt then onto Amboy Rd. Several more rollers on this road to the turn for Cedar Creek Rd. More downhill than uphill after NE Rotschy Rd. Less traffic on Cedar Creek Rd vs. Amboy Rd, even though Cedar Creek Rd is a main travel route. A couple fairly short hills on Cedar Creek before then turn for NE Pup Creek Rd (mile 33.5). A short, steep hill right off the bat on Pup Creek Rd then gradual downhill to the turn for NE Spurrel Rd. Got chased by a Great Pyranese, but he stayed off the shoulder and didn't come at me. Think he/she was in more of a play mode. Another couple of climbs on Spurrel Rd, then a long downhill to the turn for the old Grist Mill. A short climb to the NE Etna Rd junction followed by a long downhill across the Lewis River. Of course, what goes down must go up. A long, gradual climb after crossing the river to Cedar Creek Rd. If that wasn't enough climbing, there was more on NE 21st to the Jenny Creek Rd transition (mile 41-42). Second rest stop at a residence driveway off NW Bolen St (mile 44.8). Next segment went into La Center. The route creator made an odd deviation at the round-about on NW Pacific Highway and 4th St. Should have just continued straight through the round-about, but the route creator went east on 4th to a gas station then a U-turn back to the round-about. More climbing for the next few miles, then a long, gradual downhill to NE Carty Rd. Crossed over I-5 at mile 52.6. Final few miles headed south parallel to I-5 back to Salmon Creek.
