Tour de Cargo group ride. I didn't record this one but was curious about the numbers today, so I mocked it up in route planner. This is the way I went (within margin of route planner adding or removing a wrong turn here or there). My cargo bike is dropping chain on the 2 largest cogs, so Steamroller running 46/16 with a front rack, it was. Decided not to take train back after we grilled and chilled at the top until around 5. Storm scheduled to hit around 8 so gambling with timing but didn't want to take rt 6/202. The Jones Point and Nyack Beach trails on the way back were great, storm caught me in Nyack around 8pm (mcmansion row sidewalk was, as had been in the past, pretty decent cover from it but I still got wet), just before Tap, which was closed due to rain. I had planned to use 15 minute window of intense beautiful pink orange sunset to get me across the Hudson to the South County Trail. Instead, walked the Esposito trail to take cover in dark, rainy, busier road hours, think about how I got myself there. Rained that whole 45 minutes or so through the leaves, the trail in more grown in, more singletrack than I remember, behind people's homes like the OCA. There was like a stream running down the middle of the trail, I probably woulda ridden it on a more appropriate bike but walking felt right for timing and the clarity that walking can bring. +1 point for mid ride 3 mile or so hike a bike, maybe not always to be avoided. Wanted to do bike touring type ride on single speed in shorts and tshirt and got my experience. I really missed having gears on the Bear Mtn climb, definitely took more out of me, the way this bike is set up, my wrists were hurting a little at the end of the ride, lower back got a workout. Single speeding the Nyack Beach trail was pretty fun both ways but really flew by on the way back, didn't have other bikes to share the trail with while climbing (my gear ratio meant needing to pass everyone over and over). I now remember thinking single speed would be fun on there, last time I rid it south. Single speed was ok for 9W, post Esposito trail. The rain had mostly let up by the time the trail spat me out into Sparkill, it started up as I did the climb around Alpine and found a little roadside shelter to duck into for the 10 mins, look up what time GWB closed. It was 1040 so I had plenty of time. Didn't put foot down much for the rest of ride. It was pretty satisfying crossing the bridge. Good ride.
