Rolled out thinking I’d go ahead and do a Dragon 🐲 Mode 🔥🦶🏽🦵🏾🫁🫀💪🏽☀️🚴🏾🧬🏝️🫡 28-30 mph average out to ARTIC to meet up with the Ladies and Gents group and dragon didn’t seem to want to come out and play this morning. She sputtered and coughed but no 🔥. Still managed 19 mph average with lots of stretches at 25-30 mph despite a growing head wind outbound.
The group had already headed out by the time I got to ARTIC Bus Depot so I quickly used their fountain to refill my bottles and added more carb mix to one and off I went.
Took me until Pacific Coast Highway to get Dragon 🐉 awake finally and caught the groups at Seal Beach.
About 25 or so riders! Several fast women and a few fast guys in the mix.
We stopped for lunch at a coffee shop near Long Beach on PCH. They had water I could drink and nothing else that was functionally for human optimization.
So I had a ziplock of the mangos 🥭 I cut up this morning.
As soon as I clicked into my pedals and we started back I knew solidly that those mangos 🥭 packed a far more profound energy load than the boiled potatoes or rice I’ve tried before and it last longer.
Super solid energy!
One of the women - Dori riding with time trial bars made a right turn that wasn’t on the route map and I was on her wheel. So I made the turn thinking she knew something I didn’t and to see what that was?
I looked back and the rest of the group stoped at the light and intended to continue on PCH.
Then Dori made a u-turn and so did I. We made a right onto PCH before the group got their green and we were off a running.
She’s a strong time trialist! Every time I’d go to take the lead to give her as rest she’d step it o to stay out front! Very impressive as she’s pretty petite compared to my big engine. But she’s smooth and controlled with solid power delivery with no outwards indication that that she’s working hard.
I like seeing any rider that lays it down with “Flow State” like focus. It’s inspiring and beautiful in men and women.
Anyhow, before we got to Huntington Beach she left PCH for the HB bike trail which was packed with wobbling and wandering humans and dogs. Just before HB I got back on PCH and dropped the hammer… Full F-N Dragon 🐲🔥 Mode.
I thought she was going back to Dana Point - I think that’s where she lives? Learned after I arrived back at ARTIC she rode back to ARTIC!
Sorry Dori… I would have asked you to follow me to PCH if I knew that you started at ARTIC!
On PCH a fella from Rancho Cucamonga came up from behind who was a part of the L & G Group and had dropped everyone behind Dori and I so he and I rode together taking 2 min pulls at 21-22 mph until about 1-2 mi before ARTIC. I don’t think he brought enough water and the temperature was climbing fast as we headed Inland.
So I was the first to arrive back at ARTIC, hit the restroom, fountain, mixed more calories, chatted for a coupler minutes with those who had come in behind me then took off for home into the blast furnace of 100 degrees of the Inland Empire.
Good heat training I say! 👍🏾☀️🌶️❤️🔥
Average speed was solid 18 up until Green River. Dropped to 17.4 by home as the heat took all my power away for cooling.
Great ride though. Probably the strongest this year.
Sorry Jules. I was looking forward to riding with you you also today. Your power and speed always inspires me by reminding me of what’s possible.
Keep on leveling up. It’s all about “Over Adaption”
Ride at 110% of what you’ve got during speed and power training and keep all those systems quite, resting, hydrating and living water rich, sweet living foods that are easy to digest and upload for those upgrades you’ve earned during you’re workouts.
Thanks Eric… I almost went against my coach and headed for the mountains 🏔️ this morning and I’m glad you had this ride set up and available.
Love you man… Peace and Long Fast Rides to everyone reading this 🚴🏾🦶🏽🦵🏾🫁🫀🐲🔥🧬🫡🏝️🏔️👁️💗🌵☺️😊
