Here is the race report I sent to my team. Another new PR by :42 seconds, I actually didn't feel that great today and my power shows it, once I could tell I wasn't quite firing I forgot the powermeter and just focused on my position as much as possible to stay really aero to be as efficient as possible. I guess it worked. Now if I can just do that at full power...
Carlisle TT 40km Series Race #4
Date: July 27th, 2008
Place: 2nd in 51:02 (29.2 mph 46.6 km/h avg) 40km
Location: Carlisle, PA
Course: 40km, warm, humid, no wind, rolling out and back
Starters: 60
The race: This is the third time I have done this course this year so its been great to look at how changes in position, equipment and training have worked or not worked over the year. I went 53:59 in May, 51:44 in June and now 51:02 in July, so still progressing which is good. The guy who won is one of the strongest TT riders in the area (he is actually Canadian but races for the regional Harley Davidson team) and historically I have never been closer then 2 minutes to him head to head. Today I was only :30 off his pace. I had the added pressure of him starting :30 behind me so that was a good issue to have to deal with mentally at a smaller race. I was actually up on him by about 5 seconds at the halfway mark, which I think surprised both him and I, in the last half I didn.t feel I faded but he really turned it on. I think I was a bit too complacent and he really wanted to catch me so that was the difference and he caught me with about 1k to go. I at least pushed him to break the course record and I only missed breaking it by :12 seconds myself (the old record holder was 3rd at nationals last year for whatever that is worth). Overall I was pretty happy, my equipment and position are definitely sorted out and I can definitely roll on a flat to rolling course, just have to see how things go when they stick climbs in the way in California. ***
