4th of July ride. Decided to do the Jewell-Birk-Fishhawk Lake out-and-back. Started from the Baker store just outside Elsie. First 9.4 miles is on Highway 103. Minimal shoulder, but also minimal traffic. A few short rollers on this stretch. Ride by Jewell School then to the Highway 202 junction. The next 12 miles goes to Birkenfeld. One moderate hill about 5 miles in. The bridge at Vesper is under construction and limited to one lane. There is a stop light with a button for cyclists. Continue through Birkenfeld then turn off at Fishhawk Rd. This 4.5 mile section follows Fishhawk Creek to the private Fishhawk community. Pavement ends at mile 26.2 just across a bridge over Fishhawk Creek that empties into the man-made lake. Return the same way, except added a 1.25 mile out-and-back toward Mist, stopping at the Birkenfeld fire station. Low clouds dissipated on the return ride.
