Monmouth to Bristol
We started early to beat the heat. We chose a quiet B road as we thought rather than the ride down the A road in the Wye Valley to miss the traffic. However, when we got on the B road we found it was a very busy so adjusted our route to take us back to the Y Valley. Maybe the a road would be wider. It turned out the a road was blocked due to a landslip and had been closed for five weeks according to a rider we met - hence all the traffic was on the B road. - so we rode down the Y Valley on the a road with no traffic to Tintern. From there it was a rail truck that included a 1 km tunnel. Then we reached the seven Estuary and dipped our front wheels in the ocean to complete a coast to coast of Wales from north to south. After wetting our whistles a1 Spoons 11 in Chepstow and getting something to eat from Greggs we headed across the seven bridge and into Bristol via the Avon Gorge and under the first ever suspension Bridge built by Brunel and opened in 1864.
