The forecast for Half Moon Bay was cloudy with light winds. The reality was it was mostly sunny but quite windy and the wind was quite cold.
We managed to snag a table in the sun at Dad's but it was still cold, even with my jacket on.
When we were descending Higgins Canyon on the way to Dad's, I bug smacked me in the hand between my left index finger and middle finger. I don't actually remember if I felt it get stuck there but I must have because it distracted me from taking one of the sharp right handers. After the turn I looked at my hand and saw that it was a bee! I tried to blow it away but it was stuck there. I was so focused on it that I didn't realize I was heading to the side of the road where the shrubs were. I stopped and flicked the bee away. I think it was dead or dying and had actually tried to sting me because there were entrails left behind. It wasn't until I got to Dad's that I was able to find the stinger and that my gloves saved me from getting stung.
That would've been my alt title: Gloves Save Lives.
The sides of the road were lined with yellow wildflowers highlighting the path ahead. It was very pretty.
This was my 8th ride in 10 days and my legs were feeling pretty good. It probably helped that the ride was pretty chill though.
The last two rides, Sonny's Garmin has been acting up. It's giving him the wrong altitude and grade and the elevation profile is messed up. When we were climbing up Lobitos Creek from Tunitas, Sonny's Garmin was giving him a negative grade and his elevation was going down instead of up.
Descending Kings, just as I was thinking how great it was that I'd gotten to descend without any cars slowing me down, off in the distance I saw a Tesla. I caught up to it right around the entrance to Huddart and I couldn't believe it was a Model S Plaid that was going so slowly. The worst part was how slowly it cornered but it would accelerate pretty hard out of the corners so I couldn't pass it but I would easily catch it before the next corner.
If it had been 30s earlier and I could've caught up to it on the long straight above Huddart, I could've passed it.
