A few weeks ago I saw Kelly who cycles a lot stroll through the neighborhood. What I call neighborhood is Major Taylor Trail SB. I’ve asked what she would change; responding Cottage Grove was under construction with rough pavement. That was still the case, construction on Cottage Grove & 47th St in Lions. Seems I’ve kept missing turns, I’m notorious for missing a turn or two 🤷🏾♂️ It’s probably me. Took full tour of quiet South Side neighborhoods and streets. Some very familiar since we just rode with Tour de Chi. After a while I felt like Luther Vandross going in circles. LFT quiet South & bursting with activity at Soldier Field due to a marathon. Runners, pedestrians, dogs walking themselves, open water swimming as well as other cyclists. First break at mile 45 at 7-11; refuel with Gatorade & chicken sandwich. In Lagrange is when things turned sour; first storm rolled in…open country road with no options for shelter. Push through…rained sideways for 3-5 minutes, cleared and repeat. Arrived to back entrance of Waterfall Glen; skies opened and downpour numbers 3 and 4. Took refuge underneath awning with 7 others at main entrance; forced to walk about a mile due to rain. Gravel was too slick for 700x28 tires. After 15 minutes; rain had stopped, sun and bugs out! Fatigue started at mile 82, second rest featuring Nicky’s BBQ. Cheat meal with cheeseburger & fries. Overall decent route with mixed surfaces and types of roads, if you don’t like riding with traffic; this is not for you. LFT > Salt Creek Trail > Waterfall Glen > Veterans Memorial Trail > Centennial Trail > Cal Sag Trail > Major Taylor Trail SB. If you see Kelly say hello and treat her to a donut.
Today’s devotion;
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7 ESV
Having God’s peace doesn’t mean that we won’t have times where we feel anxious. But even in the most anxious of times, we can rest in the assurance that God is with us, and He is more powerful than our anxiety. When we offer God our thoughts and circumstances, we allow Him to step in. We allow Him to transform the ways we think and act. We allow His peace to guard our hearts and minds.
Every time you find yourself anxious, take a moment to pause and pray. Be honest with God and tell Him exactly how you’re feeling and thinking in that moment. Remember that God is always in control, and always present with you.
God offers a peace that the world cannot give.
