Saturday 14th September Had an earlier breakfast this morning 07:00 instead of 7:30,much to Linney disgust, not bad breakfast at least there was some hot stir fired vegetables and the egg police were not around.
Started to ride just after 08:00, it was quite cold and overcast, with spots of rain, luckily the rain did not materialise. As soon as we left the hotel, we started to climb, we had this for almost most of the day, climbing up the terraced mountains, with great views, it was not to steep so we could all admire the views and enjoy the ride.
We stopped for lunch in a small village Dijasuo, the girls in the cafe, the only one, gave us a menu, then when we tried to order, just said the only thing available was the meat and noodle soup and soft bread,so that what we had,
With still more climbing to be done, just a matter of getting in the right frame of mind, or if like me just day dream most of the time and pedal, seems to get me up the hills ok, that with overtaking the laboring trucks on the ascent, then keeping out of there way on the descents.
As we started one of the descents we cam across a museum, stroke monument built in the traditional Chinese style, in a small town Gaobu, we pulled over and had a look around, as far as I could make out it was all about remembering the good deeds of the "Red Army", nicely laid out and kept immaculate, when we came out, everyone wanted to have their picture taken with us, adults making their children stand with us, very bizarre, it must have taken us at least half an hour to leave the place. When we finally left we hit the apple and pear orchards, cycling through small villages with their fruit for sale outside their house, we stopped at one asked for three asian pears (not sure what they are called, but very nice) the girl thought we meant three kg, when we said no only three, she just gave them to us!
Nice ride into the city of Jingning, Linney's magic did not work at the first hotel, though we got the next best thing, the manager jumped on his bike and shown us where the tourist hotel was, good guy and nice touch.
Another good day in the saddle, getting very close to Xi`an now, meeting Rylan there on the 18th Sept.
