Eventful ride. Started off with a giggle when Mark showed up for the 6:30AM rollout in his PJ's! Had a pretty good turnout for the early start and it was definitely nicer rolling out to cooler temps. Gave a good effort on the outbound leg but the MPH didn't show it. Wind must have been tougher than I thought. Split into 2 groups at the first rest stop and rolled onto Dublin sweeping the first group. Got near the end of Dublin and noticed a few riders off the side of the road. Apparently Randall had a quick "zone out" that had him riding into a culvert. The force of hitting the culvert split his frame in two. His front wheel was fine so there was likely some pre-existing frame weakness. He had a few scratches and might have a shoulder/collar bone issue but was up and moving around. Mark was "medic on the spot" and bandaged up his wounds and set his arm in a sling. We sent the Tweeners on their way with Bill and hung out with Randall until his wife picked him up. It was sad/funny/ironic when his wife got out her car with her left forearm in a cast (does this family know how to party, or what?!). Rolled out to catch up to Tweeners and passed B2 on the side of the road on Renner. Checked in with Amanda and she related that they were waiting for someone to get a ride home. Turns out one of her guys had a defibrillator buzz him a couple of times to get his heart on track. Scary stuff. We might want to start polling for any pertinent medical conditions on the pre-ride brief. Rolled out with B2 from the Custer Starbucks only to hear a "mechanical" call a mile down the road. Bill picked up a flat so Mark stayed behind to help him repair it. The rest of us rolled back into the lot a little later than we normally do when we hit the road at 7AM. No Tweeners waiting for the extra miles but did 23 with 1 other person to knock out a 100K for the day. It was great to see our ride leaders at their best when the ride turns complicated.
