An enjoyable ride with good friends! The idea to bring a balloon as a meeting point was met with mixed results. The wind kept it from flying high enough so some folks didn't see it. I think most folks who wanted to, found us though (my apologies if you didn't find us). We started out with a group of close to 20 PBA-ers and set off on a moderate pace. It was a warm, breezy morning which made it a tough go heading south - for the pullers! Thanks to those who took turns at the front. It made the ride and the time on the bike fly by. I dropped off the back after the first serious hills and met back up with the group at the 2nd. break point. Although we hit every break point after that, we kept a pretty good pace. It was an effort to stay ahead of the heat. A few folks here and there peeled off on shorter routes but the core of the group was committed to 62/76. I only saw one rider down but you could tell the heat was taking it's toll. THE PBA BREAK POINT WAS THE BEST!!! Thanks to all who volunteered their time and effort to take care of the riders. Popsicles are still the best thing going at these rest stops! Our intent was to take the loop back around to the PBA break point again (for the 76 mile route) and, although we beat the noon cutoff, we were not allowed to take it. We heard from some other riders that the extension may have closed up to 30 minutes early. We had a couple of flats along the way and one or two wayward chains. This has got to be one of the best ride experiences for me at a rally. It was so nice to ride with a group of folks and I got to meet and get to know some new (to me) folks. Thanks to Darrell and his wife for getting us a table at Saltgrass. The food and drink there really hit the spot! Thanks Mark for getting this together and let's do this again soon!
