Left a bit early to beat the heat a little and enjoyed a pleasant ride in the dark through Hampton and did a few subdivisions sandwiched between warehouses on the south side of McDonough. Still early but there was a fair amount of traffic around before 6, but once I crossed the interstate things died back down again and I made my way north and east. Several normal subdivisions as the day warmed up with not a cloud in the sky. Still the temperature was pleasant for most of the morning.
I crossed over the South river to Newton county to stop at a store at Snapping Shoals. The next roads after this stop were dead ends out to the river and Jackson Lake. A lot of these were narrow gravel roads with basically no development until the very end of the road. These went by without much issue. Lunsford road was the most interesting. It was gravel, and the end near the river featured lots of old run down cabins, many abandoned and one property had dozens of cool old cars. Would have taken pictures but I was keen to keep moving to hopefully avoid any loudly barking dogs.
As I finished the Jackson Lake roads part of the route the heat of the day had fully set in and I was looking forward to stopping at Jackson. After stopping at a run down Dollar General, I did a subdivision or two in town and headed out back west on gravel roads. These were a bit slow, a little too much gravel and not enough rain.
Had a fairly pleasant ride over to Griffin, and ended up stopping one more time at a gas station for water. I tried to hydrate a bit better this ride and definitely did better than other recent rides. Took gravel roads mostly back and enjoyed them but was definitely sore and tired by the end.
