After a rest day in Dutch John we headed up the mountain through the flaming gorge in Utah. It was pretty hot again so water was plentiful on the bikes making them a bit extra. Lots of cow friends and clever signage to remind you of that. Utah folks are courteous and move well over athough traffic was super light. The FG is really pretty and no smoke or signs of what was to come here. After a lunch stop (hot dogs, cokes and Idaho potato chips) we stopped in a driveway for a equipment check when a car appeared at the gate. As we moved out of the way the owners got out and offered us water and apples, they were super cool and lived mostly in Jackson but the house in Utah had been in the family for over 80 years. Later at the Maverick station we had the most adorable stray kitty to entertain us, it looked a lot like our Star and if I could have put her on the bike we’d have her with us now. She gobbled down some egg, bacon and chicken from our Maverick salad in a microsecond.
