Another fun Puget Sound Island loop. The forecast called for sunny skies after 10am and temps in the mid to high 50s. As I've grown to expect in Seattle, the forecast was wrong. The fog was dense all day and temperatures stayed around 45 degrees (toes were numb for much of the ride). I did this ride from Alaska Junction in West Seattle; the out and back from West Seattle are posted as separate rides.
I got sidetracked around Mile 12 trying to find a way to the north point of the island using side roads, to no avail. Additionally, I was told by a native Bainbridgian that the trail along NE South Beach Dr. continued to the SE extent of the island and looped back (Mile 31). This proved to not be the case, and I had to back track and climb up Toe Jam Hill. No problem though, as this ended up being one of the steeper sections of the ride and got the blood flowing.
Overall it was a fun ride through a beautiful part of the Puget Sound. Although the housing seemed to be denser than Vashon or Camano Islands, there didn't seem to be many more cars. Road quality was good to great.
