This is a trail we rode up 'Mustang Ridg' (our name) and back to the cabin, which is tougher than going just to the cabin. Strenuous and can be difficult footing. Not recommended for beginner riders, and horses MUST be in good shape.
When you get to the dirt road, take the third draw and stay to the RIGHT side of the draw. The left side is dangerously shaley.
Trail passes Mercur cemetary and ends at an old cabin. This track was just the in and out 'version'. There is another trail slightly below the cabin, but it gets close to areas people shoot.
Trail is generally moderate, but in some places strenuous/steep hills up and down. Trail includes open sage brush areas, with ravines , some steep hills (some long, some short). Some of the trail, particularly the steep hills, is rocky. Horseshoes or boots recommended. There is no water on this trail.
Shooting is allowed north of the (paved) Mercur road. On nice weekends, there can be a lot of shooters.
To get to the parking area:
From the South: Take I-15 south to Bangerter exit. Go west and turn left on Redwood road (be careful and watch for the signs, this intersection is under construction). Go south on Redwood to 'the Lehi crossroads' (Chevron is on your right). Turn right (West). Follow signs to State Road 73 (there will be another right turn at the light past Walmart). Take state road 73 west past Eagle Mountain, through Cedar Fort, past Fairview, past Five Mile Pass. Road will begin to turn north. Just watch the mile markers and you will see they are decreasing... Follow State 73 road to marker 10. Parking is on the east side of the road.
From the North: Take I-80W to the Tooele/Stansbury exit. Follow the main road all the way through Tooele. This is (or becomes?) State road 36. Follow it through Stockton. Not far outside o f Stockton, turn left (south) at state road 73. Follow 73 to mile marker 10. Parking is a large gravel parking area on the east side of the road.
