Day 0 was the drive up to Lubec from Londonderry. Overnight at the Water Street Inn and Tavern. Dinner at the Inn. Very nice. Day 1 began with breakfast at the Fisherman's Wharf. Stop at the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse. Eastern Most point in the US. Did not cross into Canada, no passport. Cutler is scenic, but with few services, on a hot day trail angels provided a bottled water! Traffic on Rt 1 picked up from East Machias to Machias. Hotels sold out, so expected to camp along the Downeast Sunrise trail. Rode some of that in an attempt to make it to Columbia Falls, but I wasn't going to make it at the slow pace I could manage on the terrible surface of the ATV trail that is the Sunrise trail. ATVs were out in numbers and kicking up dust and noise, and hogging the trial. It's not bikeable. Turned back to Machias on the road, and visited the Blueberry Festival before luck found us a hotel Machias River Inn that had a cancellation! Dinner at Helen's was great.
