Friday 25th October Big day planned for today, planning on getting to Sagaminhar, town just on the outskirts of Yokohamma, then get the train in tomorrow to watch the rugby.
Had an early breakfast and hit the road, just after 7:00 in light drizzle, hoping it would dry up, later, after less than ½ an hour, I had part of the answer, it started to rain pretty heavily, pulled over and put full rain jacket, gloves and hat. Though it was not that cold, with the damp clothes it felt like it, coupled with a heavy mist in air, it was a shame as you could not see the stunning scenery, j just a murky silent morning. Thankfully not to much traffic on the roads, for the first 20 odd miles, after that it got quite busy through a lot of small towns, with traffic lights at loads of junctions, slowed my progress up a little and got some strange looks, why is that mad bloke out on his bike in this weather, the rain was coming down like stair rods now.
I was that wet now, it just was not worth stopping for anything to eat, I had a nuts, bit of fruit, chocolate and plenty of drinks, so just rode on through. It was good to get out of the built up area and enjoyed climbing rather than the decents, as I got a bit cold coming down. It was a shame as if the weather was clear, I would have been able to see Mt Fuji, from around the town of Kofu to Otsuki, but nothing doing, could only just see my front wheel. The same for Lake Sagmi however after the rugby I will be coming back out this way, hopefully the weather will be better.
I stopped just after Lake Samgami and adjusted both brakes,it was getting difficult to stop in the wet weather. then did the final decent into Sagaminhar, about 8 miles out they had closed the road, as there had been a landslide, started the diversion, I met a guy from Hastings on a touring bike, (Graham), he had been on the road for over a year and had cycled from the UK, taking the southern route. Had a really nice chat with him, he was on his way to Tokyo, then flying back to Europe next week. We said are good byes and wished each other luck, he was not into his rugby, then went on are separate ways,
