Thanks to The Coast Ride SAG for helping me with my flat tire!
Started the morning off with some sub-freezing temps. I got to Pacifica early enough to finish a Probar and ride back to Mori Point to use the restroom and come back to the meeting point. Still no group. Jenny, Mike, Mark Slavonia, and then Philip, Caitlin and Sarah rolled up and waited with me for a bit for the rest of the Fatcakers.
They eventually rolled while I continued to wait. I started heading backwards along the route hoping to catch them. I saw tons of people I knew and tons of people that were calling out my name but didn't know who in the group it was.
I was worried I maybe missed them so I turned around again. The riding was helpful anyway because standing around, I was starting to shiver.
Eventually, almost an hour after I got there, the group rolled up. It was surprisingly windy heading down Hwy 1. The pace wasn't too bad but it also wasn't necessarily chill either. It was also weird to have people not using the shoulder on Hwy 1.
Raymond had been on the front pulling for a while when Chris went up to do what I thought was help with the pacelining. But once he got to the front, the paceline blew apart. I think he was actually going up there to say we dropped some people but instead started dropping more. :)
We stopped to regroup and shortly after that, I got a heavy duty staple in my rear tire right near Hwy 92. I told everyone to go ahead since I was going to be turning off soon myself.
I got the new tube in and I didn't realize it was twisted and I ended up pinch flatting. I had no more tubes or CO2. I had called for a pickup when a Fatcaker stopped to give me a tube. And right at that moment the SAG van pulled up and sorted me out tout suite!
Since I'd already killed so much time and I wanted to be back for noon, I decided to take Hwy 92 back since I was already there. Luckily it was still early in the day and not too much traffic heading east. I was riding straight into the headwind though.
