Bonus Day 8 of #kateepic
Not the ride we planned but no less fun and amount of wow! Amazing day!
The plan was to head up to Pine Mtn. and ride some new trails for a 68 mi./10,500' day of mostly dirt.
First new trail - Corte Madera Fire Ridge Rd. It was super steep and mostly had to hike it. Would not recommend. We should've just done a little more road and climbed Old Railroad Grade from the beginning since that's where we were eventually headed anyway.
At the top of West Point Inn, Jenny and Mike headed back. Really, they headed back too soon because the next new trail we did, Rocky Ridge Rd. was excellent. Amazing views. A bit rocky but fine.
Unfortunately, Kailen slashed the sidewall on his rear tire. A failed attempted at booting meant we had to throw a tube in it.
By the time we got down to Bon Tempe Lake, it was lunch time and we hadn't even headed up Pine Mtn. yet. We decided to go down to Fairfax for lunch and decide what to do afterward. At that point, I didn't feel like we were going to do Pine Mtn. Too many people seemed weary of all the planned climbing.
We had lunch at Way Station. This time was much better than the first time. I had the Cheddar Burger instead of the Western BBQ Burger. A better choice. Also had fries instead of their tater tots which were terrible. How do you ruin tater tots?
Everyone was enjoying lounging in the sun. Given the time, I made the decision to just do head back and do all the dirt I added to the route but thought we'd probably skip.
So next new trail was Shaver Grade - loved it! Fun, fun descent. Then onto Eldridge Grade. Spectacular views and not as bad as everyone made it out to be. Then it was back to the regular Dirty Donut trails which were new for everyone.
Nikki, Emily, and I went back in to Tennessee Valley to do Marincello, Bobcat, and Julian, while Catherine and Kailen headed back on road.
I ended getting back to the car right at sunset. So, good thing we didn't try to do Pine Mtn. and San Geronimo Ridge Rd. afterall.
