The ride to the south gate of Mt. Diablo was not recorded (9.7 mi & 31 min). Then, the battery died and I did not have the external battery with me. I was about an hour ahead of my time in 2013 when I left the lunch stop, but something seriously disagreed with me and I felt sick to my stomach most of the rest of the ride, which developed into a bad case of heartburn along with the queasiness. My time climbing Mt. Hamilton was surely very slow, and overall, my time after lunch must have been slower than in 2013; I think I gave much of the time I had gained back.
The weather forecast was for showers until 11AM, but the rain had stopped by 5AM, and, while the roads were wet and messy, we did not get rained on. It was cold descending Mt. Diablo, but otherwise temperatures were mostly on the cool side, which was good for cycling. I rode with short fingered gloves all day, and just used the visibility vest for the descent of Mt. Diablo, and I think I put it back on when leaving the last checkpoint for the final leg of the ride.
My legs were strong at the end of the ride, although the ride was hard on my knees in spite of the 11-32 cassette. If not for the stomach issue, I may have knocked off 2 hours in elapsed time from 2013, instead of coming close to duplicating it. Besides the stomach issue, I was not able to fly through the windy roads following Santa Rosa Rd in the dark (following Pet the Goat) like I was able to do in the daylight in 2013.
Bottom line, if the weather is apt to be hot, start at 5AM; if it is cold and rainy, start at 6, but don't bother otherwise...

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
