Park in Oak Creek. Begin with a 1.7 mile climb up CR 27 then check your brakes before the 2.4 mile descent to the intersection with CR 29. Turn left here to leave the pavement and begin the easy 7.2 mile climb up the Trout Creek drainage. At this point you'll reach a fork in the road at the Routt National Forest boundary. Stay left and follow CR 132A up into the trees. You'll notice a sign where this road becomes CR 90 once you cross the county line into Rio Blanco County. After completing this 1.8 mile climb, you will have reached the high point of the route at 8,475' and may enjoy views down the Oak Creek drainage before you as well as Pyramid Peak and Flattop Mountain over your right shoulder. Now begin the smooth ride down CR 90. After descending for 2.3 miles, you'll reach a fork which marks your return back to Routt County and another name change, this time to CR 25. Stay left and finish the descent to Oak Creek. I rode this in April and saw a bald eagle, a female sharp-tailed grouse, several red-shafted northern flickers, a few red-winged blackbirds, and dozens of American robins. Roads were all snow-free and in great shape.
