Tour of the highest peaks in Santa Cruz - Mt. Umunhum, highest peak on the Bay Area Ridge Trail, and Loma Prieta, highest peak in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
We did some serious vert today climbing over 6,000 feet in the first 24 miles. The last 3.5 miles to the top of Mt. Umunhum were the nicest. Pretty, tree cover with gradual grades and nice trail.
And it was HOT! Knowing there wasn't going to be any water on the ride, we had to bring extra water with us up the climbs. First time installing bottle cages on the fork. It still wasn't quite enough water for the day though.
The first part was steep but steady and very manageable. Then came some really crazy roller coaster rollers, many that we had to hike. And they were just steep but really loose and rocky. But the views were really gorgeous.
On the way back, we did some exploring and ended up climbing Loma Prieta. We did some bushwhacking to get there.
At that point we were off route by quite a bit, tired, hungry, and in need of water. We came up with the idea to drop down the other side and go to Summit Store instead of heading to Almaden Quicksilver as planned.
Super fun day, possibly the most epic gravel pandepic yet. The miles to elevation ratio for sure.

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
